Day at the pool!

The whole family is now in Dubai!  Yesterday we spent the day at the pool (Norah's first time in the pool) and had some fun with Marc's underwater toy!  Floortje has really got the hang of looking good under water!

Golf tournament

Yesterday Thijs and my dad were invited to play in the Dome-Kentz golf tournament at the Montgomerie. They had a great day, especially my dad was impressed with the goodiebag, course and the rest. The day ended with a dinner were Thijs and my dad's team was awarded the first prize (a 'beautiful' trophy and a new putter). Well done guys!

Weekend at the Al Qasr hotel

A few weekends ago we spend a weekend at the Al Qasr Hotel in the Madinat Jumeirah.    We had been collecting Sirius points or a while and we were now able to spend them on a night here.  What a lovely place!  We had been to the hotel many times for dinner but never for a night's stay.  We were upgraded to the Dar al Masyaf part of the hotel and got a very nice room with view of the seas and the Burj al Arab.  We had a great lunch on the beach and went down the slides at Wild Wadi waterpark.  Famke was amazing and went down the coolest slides!  A great weekend all together!

Halliburton BD Academy

Two weeks ago Thijs attended the Halliburton BD Academy in San Antonio, TX.  The last night is the awards ceremony when everyone dresses up.  Some put on their countries national dress but the Landmark theme of the year was 'Top Gun'.

International Week

Every year, the Dubai British School organizes an international week. During the week the kids learn lots of new things about all the different countries.  At our school alone there are about 45 different nationalities.  Lots of parents came into school to speak about their countries.  I went into Floortje's class and gave a picture presentation about Holland.

The highlight of the week is the international food court.  On this day all the kids are allowed to come in the national dress or colors of their country  All the parents are requested to bring in some food from their country.  During the day, all the kids visit the food court and have a chance to sample the food from around the world.  Like last year I volunteered to bake poffertjes!  Great day!

All the classes made a special poster, left Floortje's Camel class and right the one from Famke's year 3 class.

The girls and me in our dutch outfits, and Riette and myself busy with the 'poffertjes'

Mmmmmmmm!

Dinosaur exhibition

This term year 3's theme subject was dinosaurs.  This subject is then incorporated in many parts of the curriculum during this period.  One morning there was a class assembly to share their knowledge and to tell their parents  and the other primary students what they had been working on.

To end the theme the children organized a real exhibition with displays, paintings, a quiz and even refreshments!

Sandstorm

Winter is the time that sandstorms can occur here in Dubai and today one came along.  Sand everywhere!!!  It doesn't matter if you keep your windows closed, it will still get in.  I can write my name of the kitchen table!  Below some pictures.

My car, after a few hours of storm (it had been washed the night before!)

Outside dining table and footsteps on the terrace.

Oops, forgot to close the bathroom window!

Picture from the newspaper.  All the sand in the air really reduces the visibility!
