Pool 6 - Coping

First of all the coping (the edge of the pool) is put onto the pool together with the tiles for the waterline.  We chose travertine stone for everything around the pool.  Very hard to chose colors and materials when you only see a small sample of something but hopefully it will turn out nice.

So far so good....

Pool 5 - Time to make it look nice

Now that most of the 'construction' work is done it is time to make it all look nice.

Pool 4 - Electricity

Of course lights are needed in a pool!

Pool 3 - Gunite

Tuesday was gunite day!  This is the special concrete that is used as a base for the pool.  It gets sprayed onto the sides.  As you can imagine this creates a huge mess so the whole back side of the house was wrapped in plastic sheeting

Amazing to see how you can change the look of a garden in three days!!

And then it rained!!!  You need water to cure the gunite but needless to say we were a bit worried if this was not too much.

Pool 2 - Steel and plumbing

After a rest day the work continued on Monday.  Today it was time to take care of the steel and the plumbing.

Pool 1 - Digging

After some issues with the neighbors (not resolved!) it was finally time to start the pool.  Unfortunately the pool had to 'dug by hand' but on the other hand this gave us some spectacular activity in the back yard on Saturday the 12th of November!  The guys started at 7 in the morning and by 4 o'clock it was done.  The small Bobcat took out the dirt, emptied it in wheelbarrow.  The wheelbarrows were then taken to the front of the house and peptide into a larger digger which emptied its contents into the truck.

After some very, very hard work and lots of wheelbarrows later we had a pool in the garden (well, a hole in the ground at least).
