Hoera Elsbeth!

And today we had the second birthday! Elsbeth turned 44!

Last night we took her out to our favorite tex-mex restaurant, Lupe Tortilla (as they were closed today). They do a nice birthday surprise act, complete with huge sombrero and a tres leches dessert!

Hiep hiep hoera Elsbeth!

Hoera Poezeoma!

Elsbeth and Poezeoma arrived last week. Thevery next day we had something to celebrate as Oma turned 73!

Brunch in her favorite restaurant with presents and a mimosa started the day off right.

A cookie cake (requested by the girls), a relaxing afternoon by the pool and rack of lamb from the BGE ended the day on a pretty good note!l

Hiep hiep hoera! To many more!

Catalog overload

Yesterday UPS delivered a package. As I hadn't ordered anything I was excited to see what it was.

Last year we bought an outdoor lounge set from Restoration Hardware and I think they consider us a loyal customer now as they kindly sent us their catalogs. All thirteen of them!

The UPS shipping label stated that the weight of the package was 17 lbs!
I think someone at the RH office must have had some doubts too as they went out of their way to ensure the recipients that this shipment was printed on responsibly sourced paper and that the shipping was carbon-neutral.....

Mmmm, nice shop, beautiful catalogs but I think I am going to have to find the 'unsubscribe' button for this one.

Young teaches old

Elsbeth is very happy with her new iPad mini. She is still learning but luckily Floortje is never far away to explain what she needs to know :)

2nd grade field trip

Today Floortje had a field trip to one of the local parks in Katy. Sun, games, popsicles and a playground made for a great trip!

Class picture

And a class picture with funny faces :)

Boodschappenbriefje / shopping list

I know there are many Dutch people in Houston and surrounding areas. Estimates range from 3 to 7 thousand. However, I don't know many in my immediate neighborhood so I had to smile today when I found this briefje/list all crumbled up in my shopping trolley today at my local supermarket.

Koningsspelen Houston

Last weekend we also had the first Koningsspelen here in Houston. Over a hundred kids came together at one of the public parks to play the traditional games, sell their old toys at the vrijmarkt and run around with their friends.

Of course the adults were not forgotten and we were able to enjoy a 'tompoes' with our coffee and even a 'broodje frikandel'! A very nice morning all together.

Only one picture though:

(Small note: the t-shirt design was done by yours truly. Really fun to see so many kids run around in something I put together).

Since I have been organizing this orange party for the kids for years it was really nice to enjoy this one with the girls and talking to my friends. Through experience I know it is nice to get a little acknowledgement for the work put in so with the ladies from last year we got the organizing committee a small token of appreciation (there is some hand cream hiding behind the card)

Second 5k

Yes, I am still running! I am even starting to enjoy it :)

This week I ran my second 5k race. It was an all women event held in the evening. The atmosphere was really nice with even some food and wine afterwards!

Monique ran the 5k as well, while Lori took on the 10k. This is our pre-race picture (won't bother with the after one... too sweaty as it was a very, very humid night).

We haz jazz!

Each year second grade performs a musical for the other kids in school and they have one evening performance for the parents. This year it was 'We has jazz!'

Before spring break the kids got some songs and lines which they could practice to get ready for the audition. Floortje's decided to try out for a speaking part so the lines were rehearsed many times during our road trip to Florida.

And she did it! Floortje's got the part of Betty. Not a main part but quite a few lines to learn anyway.

One of her lines (to Billie Holiday) with lots of drama: 'Oh miss Billie, I have suffered, I have suffered real bad!'

She did really well, not nervous at all, and spoke very clearly so the audience could hear. Well done Floor!

Taking pictures with my phone from quite a few rows back was not very successful.

After-show photo opportunities were much better though!
