Floortje's essay

At school Floortje has been learning how to write persuasive essays.

This is one she wrote at home as to why we should have a dog.

My overruling powers are still greater than Floortje's persuasive ones but I must said she made a pretty good case!

Lost for words...

Got these two news updates within a few days from each other.  First the Texas Senate bans a bill that would stop people from texting while driving (yes, that is allowed here in Texas!!!).

Then a few days later they approve a bill that will allow concealed hand guns on college campuses.

I just have not a got a clue what these people are thinking.....

First concert

Our girls had never been to a real concert yet so when I saw that Train was coming to the Woodlands we bought tickets.  Lori, Justin and their girls went as well.  The Cynthia Woods Pavilion is a really nice venue.  Outside but half covered, not too big and very cosy.

After some delays due to rain and thunder the concert started.  Even the two starting acts were amazing!

Swim team

For the first time this year Famke and Floortje have joined the Cinco Ranch Otters swim team.

It is short but intensive season as they have practice pretty much every day.

Too much rain

When it rains it pours!  Especially in Texas.  Way too much rain in Houston! This is what the highways around downtown looked like.  Unbelievable!

Staycation with Myra and Marlies

As Myra is moving back to Holland this summer we thought it would be nice to have a short staycation in Houston with the three of us. A nice lunch, some shopping, getting our hair done plus a nice french dinner made for a fabulous time!

Thanks girls! We will miss you Myra!

The hardest thing about moving around the world is that the friends that you make, meet and come across again are doing the same thing. This year is particularly hard as quite a few good friends are leaving Houston. So trying to make the most of it while we can!

 

Esprit de She run

Like last year I ran in the Esprit de She 5k run here in Katy.  It is an all ladies run, done at night.  Afterwards there is food and drinks.  Fun evening

15 and 45 years

To celebrate our anniversaries we surprised my parents with a weekend at the beach in Galveston.

Nice food, some fishing, geocaching and walks on the beach!

Flight over Houston

A colleague of Thijs used to be in the Air Force and still needs to fly quite a few hours every month to keep his skills up.  When Thijs told him we would be in Galveston for the weekend he invited Thijs to meet him a the local airport there and go for a trip.  My dad and Floortje also joined.  It was a beautiful clear day and they flew all around and over Houston.  They even did a very low fly-by at the beach where Famke, oma and I were waving at them.
