Instead of their uniform the girls got to wear 'red and black' today. For this privilege they have to pay 5 dirhams. All of the money will go to Japan. Nice and fun way to raise money for a good cause!

Today is 'Mother's Day' in most arabic countries so today during arabic lessons Famke made me a card. At the top (from right to left of course) it says 'Happy Mother's Day'). Very special. Thanks Fam!

Barbie 1985
25 years ago we were living in the States and I was given a Peaches 'n Cream Barbie doll. My mum has kept it all those years and now my girls play with it too (bad hair day though :) ). Imagine my surprise when I came across exactly the same doll in the toy store only a few weeks ago! Apparently Barbie have decided to remake it 25 years later.
40!
Finally some pictures form my 40th birthday! What an amazing weekend. It started on Thursday when 2 huge 40 balloons were delivered to the house sent by Amanda and Richard.
On Friday we prepared for the party. During the preparations the biggest surprise of the day arrived in the form of Gerda! No one (except my dad, not even Thijs) knew she was coming! So nice to have the whole family together (unfortunately Elsbeth was missing).
The garden was completely transformed with black tables, white decoration and lots of lights! Just the way I wanted it!
Everyone was welcomed with canapes and prosecco and around 9 we sat down for a dinner in the garden. We started with antipasti, followed by spaghetti vongole and fillet steak on mushroom risotto. The food was absolutely wonderful. During the dinner I was presented with a voucher for a digital photography course. Great, really looking forward to it!
At 12 it was my actual birthday and we celebrated with champagne and every couple got a paper lantern to light and let go into the sky. The lanterns created a lot of hilarity but eventually most of them made it up into the air. What a lovely sight!

Floortje's schooltrip
Yesterday Floortje went on a schooltrip to the Sharjah Science Museum. During the trip the kids learned loads about space and landing on the moon.
