After a visit to Omi, we couldn't resist the urge to take a small detour to the city centre for a 'broodje kroket' at Dungelmann. Mmmmmmm!
While we were there we decided to show the girls a bit of Dutch culture by taking them to 'Het Binnenhof' where our government resides.
and were also able to find a geocache hidden in this beautiful spot :)
Like the yearly Rademaker bowling tournament, it seems that's we now also have a recurring mini golf tournament with Opa and Oma :)
Please note the score of today's winner (yours truly, a.k.a. as 'mama') and the accompanying guidelines from the local mini golf club :)
So nice to meet up with Martina and Lisa after two years! Nicer even that all of us just picked where we left off...
On Saturday Innes had a birthday party at a soft play place and we decided to take the girls as well. Good thinking as they do not think they are too big for these places at all yet. However the real fun came after our lunch when they also let the kids use the outside facilities! Grass sledding and riding around on a track with karts.
If we can manage it we always plan a long weekend in Scotland to meet up with the Milne family. The Scottish weather is usually not one of the reason we cross the North Sea but this year it was just amazing.
So nice that we actually spent an afternoon at Banff beach. First we had lunch at the local chippie (fish and chips shop). I think it was my first proper fish and chips ever (and probably last one for a while too).
After lunch we had a few gorgeous hours in the sand. The girls wading in the (very cold) sea, Innes collecting jellyfish, Famke making rock art work and Amanda and myself catching up. So nice
I know I posted 'hunebed' pictures last year but we are in Drenthe again and came across this large one yesterday. It is near Anloo and is called D11. It was in the middle of the woods in a beautiful spot under the trees. It still amazes me how these huge boulders were put in place 5000 years ago.
And on this rare occasion Famke posed for a picture by herself. Very happy with the result!
Last Friday the girls went to Elsbeth to spend the night. Elsbeth lives on the 11th floor with a beautiful view but Thijs was very clear about them not being allowed out of the house after I left :)
The girls got to choose what they wanted to eat for dinner... Pancakes it was!!!!!
This gave Gerda and me the opportunity for a nice dinner outside on one of the terraces in Assen. A rare occurrence this summer from what I have heard :)
One more box on our summer list can be ticked!
After finding our smallest geocache so far at the entrance we went to the zoo in Emmen.
We try to do this every other year. The girls still love seeing all the animals and when I asked Famke if she thought she would be too old in two years time she said: 'no!'
We managed to listen to three zookeeper talks: the baboons, the elephants and the hippos. The girls were even allowed to feed the baboons some apples and the hippos lots of cucumbers.
Especially Famke was very interested in everything that was being said.
One of the things on our 'summer want to do list' was bowling.
Just like last year, Elsbeth, Poezeoma, the girls and I went to Pand 17 in Assen for the now traditional (female only) yearly Rademaker bowling competition.
And the 2013 winner is...... Famke!!!! (aka Famlie)
